Some of you are whining that I’m unfairly picking on the game for saying the tutorial fight was boring, and the person shown playing was using a gathering/crafting class not suited to combat. That’s not my problem. That’s the class Square-Enix chose to showcase their brand new MMORPG. They chose a boring fight with a boring non-combat class. Indeed, that’s a worst-possible scenario, but again, that’s the mark of a terribly-organized demonstration. If they had any brains, they might have showcased battles against impressive monsters against higher-level combat classes to show off the full range of spells and abilities available to players. Or they might have put the non-combat character in a situation where he can use the full range of his crafting abilities. You know, something that might have shown each character in their optimal environment. It helps to sell the game when your audience is actually impressed. Hell, I’m impressed their audience is even awake.Their job, their mandate is to make the game look fun, exciting, and fresh. They’ve done none of that. All they did was slap together a poorly-organized tutorial level with nothing of interest to see or do. I just find it funny that you’re not disputing the fact this game looks fucking boring, just that Square-Enix intentionally put the most boring demo conceivable on the show floor.None of the other games did that. Final Fantasy 14 is pathetic, and anyone who’s still sticking up for it in the face of all the games I’ve previewed so far is absolutely devoted to fooling themselves.
